Workers are NOT disposable - Take Action

Our number one priority is getting workers home safely

In response to more than thirty construction worker deaths in just over two years, Building Blocks NY brought together labor and community partners to advocate for the passage of critical construction safety legislation for New York City.

On September 27th, 2017, the New York City Council passed Intro. 1447 by a unanimous vote. On October 16th, 2017 Intro. 1447 was signed into law.

The final version of the bill, Int. 1447-C establishes a minimum requirement of 40 hours of training for all workers on buildings higher than four stories in NYC and creates a special task force to make decisions on requirements regarding training for specific jobs. This new law is protecting and providing safety and training standards for all workers – union and non-union alike.
